Automated Garden Watering System

Check out the Automated Garden Watering System - the perfect solution for anyone with a large garden - and the frustration that comes with having to water it!
We have a really big garden, so when I was looking for inspiration for my Bright Sparks Competition project my Dad suggested I make something that would help out in the garden - and have a few other applications too. The best part about developing my project was learning more about PIC microcontrollers and advanced circuits. What I found a real challenge was trying to get serial communications working, and trying to find a C compiler that actually works!
I usually spend my spare time on the computer programming software or microcontrollers, creating electronic projects, playing computer games or creating graphics. I have been a Bright Sparks member for a long time, probably as early as intermediate school. I like helping other people with their projects, and also like sharing my own projects.
I'm planning go to the University of Canterbury to study computer engineering [a cross between computer science and electronic engineering]. Down the track I'd love to have a job that's got something to do with electronics and microcontrollers, something that involves electronic design and programming.
