Inspired by an online game, Bairon’s robot is the most effective, autonomous “beastie” the judges have ever seen.
“The inspiration for my project came from my passion towards electronics, gaming and the desire to make something that would incorporate the knowledge I have attained in the time I have been studying and express it all as a robot. The design of the robot is loosely based on one of my favourite online characters’ weapon, a scythe.
The best part of this project was getting the chance to program the Picaxe 08M microprocessor and experiment with the different values to make the robot move around.
The hardest part of my project was figuring what pins had to be on to make the wheel move to my liking. Deciding on a material for the casing of the product was also difficult as I had to choose something light weight and ergonomically pleasing.
I really enjoy modifying and hacking video games, adding my own touch to them, then sharing with friends and family. I also enjoy making music for a community dedicated to hacking Wii games.
My dad and my granddad are my biggest inspirations. When I was younger and got my first AM radio, I would always fix it with my granddad. My dad and I both love computers and he has been the one who has inspired me to become a computer programmer.
My dream would be going on a show like Discovery Channel’s ‘Mythbusters’ or becoming an astronaut and spending my time locating new things in the universe.”
