“The actual submission process was really interesting – you get to create a video, piece together your thoughts, and get everything down on paper, in the one place” he says.

“I’d never done anything like this before, and it was definitely an important learning experience.”

His rise to fame included being featured on an episode of Tech Bytes on TV3, where he got to show his app to the New Zealand audience.

With an improved version of the app in the works, Kerman now has his sights set on getting into an Ivy League university next year, where he intends to study Computer Science. His long-term goals are to work for a top-tier technology company, and eventually set up his own business in Silicon Valley.

Kerman concludes by saying that the support he received from ASB Bright Sparks has helped him immensely to date.

“The level of support you get is amazing,” he says.

“Ross Petersen (ASB Bright Sparks founder) in particular is incredibly helpful. It’s not a case of just getting you to sign up and then leaving you alone – you get guidance and assistance throughout the entire competition.”

“Overall, the experience has been really solid for my CV and gave me and my invention some great exposure.”
