If a cow goes down with milk fever or runs into difficulties when calving, the danger is that the farmer might not notice until it's too late. Cow Tipping Moonitor produces a noise when the cow falls down - alerting the farmer to the issue.
My parents are sharemilkers on a farm, and this winter has been kind to us because we haven’t had any cows go down with milk fever. The gadget that I decided to build will help alert them if a cow goes down in future. If they go down, a signal is sent to the house and cowshed that alerts Dad.
The best part about this project was working with the PICAXE chip and learning how it works. The hardest part was not scaring the cows when I was testing it in the paddock! Our neighbour kept thinking that the siren was his car alarm.
I was inspired to create my project because of my Dad. He works really hard on the farm.
