Keen to add some colour to your music? Ben Mulholland has you covered.

The inspiration for this project came when I was browsing an online shopping website and came across some very powerful but cheap RGB (red, green, blue) LEDs.  I did some research and found that while commercial lighting controllers were available, they were all pricey, required additional expensive hardware, and had few customisable options.  I decided to invent my own solution which would support a wide range of hardware, and be affordable to produce.  I designed this project with the intention of creating a device that could eventually be manufactured and sold, so it would have to be reliable, effective and user friendly.

The best part about developing this project was when everything finally began to come together and work the way I wanted.  Picking up new skills such as digital audio processing and producing 3D CAD renders was also a great experience.  There were a few frustrations both with the hardware and software that I ran into along the way.

I've been a Bright Sparks member for over three years now. It's a great way to network with other like-minded people and discuss ideas. In the future I plan on attending Canterbury University to study for a Bachelor of Engineering, specialising in either Computer Systems Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I want to work in the electronics and hi-tech industry as an engineer and would like to travel overseas for a few years once I graduate.
