RFID PC Boot
16 years
Matt designed a RFID system to control the access and boot to his clients PC. The computer boots when you swipe a tag containing a unique RFID tag inside and it safely shuts down when the same tag is swiped again. One of the main focuses of the project was to keep the outcome concealed, and therefore not visible from the outside!
My goal was to create an innovative, working project that met the requirements of the National Certificate in Electronics Technology [Level 2] that I'm doing at school. The best part about developing the project was the simplicity. At first I thought it would be challanging to interface RFID Technology with PC hardware [with both the programming and interface] to create a boot sequence, but as the concept was developed and researching completed I found that this can be done simply, and in a way that's not obvious outside the PC case. While it's a pretty simple project that didn't require too much labour, the portfolio work that went with the project was pretty intense and took a lot of hours to complete.
In my spare time I enjoy having a play with new PC hardware, I am currently considering making another i7 build for my second gaming PC - maybe just the 920 this time. I've been a Bright Sparks member for about four years now, I think the best thing about the Bright Sparks forum is the easy access to help, guidance and support.
