Smart Guard Bot is an electronic security guard on wheels which can patrol your home. If it detects movement a message is sent to a website that Cyril has designed. It can also send a text to your mobile phone and follows a pre-set patrol path.

Looking around I saw an obvious increase in crime all over the world.  I thought I should try and find some answer to this issue.  Eventually I came up with Smart Guard Bot as a project worth developing.  The idea was to improve usual alarm systems by making a robot patrol the house.  The robot can also communicate with you through cellphone and email in order to raise the alarm as soon as it detects someone.

I really enjoyed being able to pull all the different technologies (WiFi, motion and infrared detection) together to make a new system.  Some of the technologies were difficult to install and program – which made the project quite challenging.

It wasn’t easy getting all the components to work together in harmony.  A lot of trials and tests were needed to get it running smoothly.  To compound things all the limited resources of the microcontroller I was using made it even more difficult.  I had to adapt some of the components so that they required less RAM and power.

I love anything that has to do with electronics and programming. I read a lot about these topics and I’ve designed websites and programs, as well as simple robots. I’ve also been learning iPhone programming and want to publish some apps. I plan on going to Auckland University to study engineering and one day I would like to run my own company selling electronics devices and software.
