Hello Bright Sparks! I am out exciting to share my recent programmg project that I have been working on, which can potentional become quite a commercial success. For those of you who aren't aware, vBulletin is a commercial Internet forum software, the most popular one at that too. Well recently I was approached by the owner and founder of the BuyPoe Network, Dave. The BuyPoe network includes sites like http://forum-skins.com/ http://buypoe.com and a few others. Dave told me about his idea of having a Dynamic RSS Driven Slider Plugin for vBulletin and asked if I would like to develop it, after having some fun negotiating our price cuts, we came to an agreement of 25% for me and 75% for Dave, however Dave will be incharge of publishing, marketing and paying for all expenses. After a week of heavy development, literally waking up at 9 am in the morning and programming till 1 am the next morning. I finally had a working version of the product. Then just yesterday, we released the first public version, version 1.6. You can check it out at http://forumslider.com/ if you wish. The product is getting sold for $99 for a site license. As of about an hour ago, we have made our first sale of $99, which is rather quite exciting considering it is such a new product, and still tends to have quite a few bug that I am trying to sus out. The cool thing about this project is also that it is my very first time developing a plugin for vBulletin and also the first time I am programming in Javascript with Jquery. I will keep you guys posted on any updates with the development and commercial side of things. Thanks, Schalk -------------------------------- Proud Christian

That's awesome! Keep it up! I can't wait until my project is all patented and such so I can share it with others... You are in a great posistion to be able to talk about the project and such. 25% is a good cut too, considering the hardest yards are done. Maintainence only becomes a pain when other people are not capable of using it... You may have read this: http://www.mcsweeneys.net/links/dreamjobs/dreamjobs5.html Saw it on the programming subreddit. Dan 'The Man' Collins Moderator

@Microman171: :D good luck! It is always exciting when you come near the end/ready stages of a product, however I find that is the most challenging part as well. The hardest part has been done - however I wish I could put my feet up and watch the money roll in, however there have already been a number of bugs spotted which I'm actively working at fixing now. Plus I'm working hard on extending this mod to do even more thing, just to get ups an any competition we might have or get in the future. But it surely does help a lot having someone do all the background work you don't have time to do like making the website and actually marketing it. Cool thing is the guy who is marketing it is also learning Javascript at the moment and is quite keen to jump in and help with development as soon as he can. Thanks for sharing the link, was a good read :). Thanks guys! :) -------------------------------- Proud Christian

I feel I am in a similar posistion. I have a job designing a product (hardware and software), but that is where my part stops. My business partner is working on all of the marketing, the big demonstration, the look of the visible parts, and funding. It's great to be able to focus on the project itself, rather than having to focus on all of the other parts. I guess that is why there is such thing as a company, so everybody can help to make the product the best it can be. Dan 'The Man' Collins Moderator
