i got a copy of office '02 which i picked clean off the carcase of busted PC's hard disk so to speak. it works fine to this day and i've got it on most of my PCs namly my laptop and main desktop had to do a bit of searching for the key however. i've had a play with 08 at poly one time I dont really like the layout and the menu graphics are a bit OTT (vista-esque) I prefere my 9x - XP style menus thankyouverymuch i now have my own web server. http://resistorhelper.no-ip.org

Why'd Microsoft kill the perfectly good layout of the old systems that everyone knew!!! :(. The new layout sucks - everything's ridiculously hard to find.

I have microsoft Office 2007. Its MEAN! Its very user friendly and there are a number of new functions. It doesnt even compare to the earlier versions of office as its just so much better

I tend to disagree with the 'meaness' of it simply because, as with vista, Microsoft has gone overboard with good looks rather than functionality. Yes, I like the new functions, but I don't see what was wrong with the old layout to be perfectly honest. Might just be me being annoyed that microsoft is in effect making us buy better computers, but that is how I see it. It would be nice if (like in control panel) you had the option to view in the old style. Anybody else thinking the same? [green]Send any unwanted computer parts to me via Ross. omg, you people need to realise that companies are not going to make software with old interfaces! Its ridiculous to even suggest so!

Yeah, I'm fully with treeness. Besides, most of the previous editions of office kept the same layout and just included more functions. So I'm PRETTY sure that Micro$oft (which is the company in question) has already employed this tactic... So obviously it's balmy to suggest that companies don't re-use their interfaces. What was your point again James...?

that office 2007 is the best ever release of microsoft office due to the fact that microsoft changed the layout and modernised it (as you obviously would expect them to)

LOL Office 2007 was made an absolute dog of a program BECAUSE micro$oft "modernised" it (as obviously you would expect them to).

His point is that it didn't need to be modernised, it shouldn't have been modernised, and it annoys alot of people. Therefore, he is contradicting you James and I must say I am fully behind him on this. [green]Send any unwanted computer parts to me via Ross. Particularily hardrives and memory. WTF? Everything has to be modernized! Its time some people get off their crappy DOS computers (cos Dos is rubbish!) and get with the new age!

Lol. If your not careful you may well bring the Terminator movie to life James. Lol just kidding. But seriously, things can be modernised with out having to look different. Take swimsuits for example. The material used has changed (Especially the suits worn by olympians) but they look exactly the same. Yes they have changed, but not in such a huge jump. Personally I think that this jump between looks was unnecesary and that performance has been sacrificed for it. The new tools could have been added without the new looks. I'm sure most of us don't use DOS anymore (not that there was anything wrong with using it. Some of the best storylined games are on DOS) so I wouldn't go so far as to say get off your DOS pc's if I were you, and most of us are only a step behind your expectations. Modernisation isn't everything, especially if the environment, our production rate, or other things are influenced badly because of it. [green]Send any unwanted computer parts to me via Ross. I'm with treeness and eric. What was wrong with the Office 2003 layout? It worked well, and was intuitive and easy to use. I fail to comprehend why MS made the new layout the only option (why not the option for both). I also feel that office 07 is a lot more bloated and slow then office 03, for the sake of what? A new interface, that many despise and a handful of new features. btw james, who here is using dos? ----------------- Any sufficiently advanced bug is indistinguishable from a feature.
