Wireless Whistle
The Wireless Whistle is a device to help hearing impaired athletes to play sports by using other sensors instead of sound. When the whistle is blown it expands a foil diaphragm inside it, which completes a circuit and sends a signal to a hearing impaired athlete playing. This way, they will never be disadvantaged while playing a sport for not hearing the whistle.
What inspired you to create your project?
While playing a game of water polo, a player got kicked-off for playing after the whistle was blown. They complained that they hadn’t heard it. It made me think - what would you do if you didn’t hear the whistle? And I wondered how hard this would be for the hearing impaired.
Are you the first tech inventor in your family?
I’m the first.
Who influences your tech/innovation?
My Dad inspires me, he runs a toy business.
What is your dream job?
I’d love to be a Teacher at primary school level.

ASB Bright Sparks gives you opportunities and a chance to make something and show it off. It’ great to see what others make and hopefully win or create something cool.
Would you enter ASB Bright Sparks again?
Yes I’d enter again, it was a great experience and I enjoyed the process.

Great idea Kate, while it will still be a difficult issue for water sports when the hearing impaired person cannot wear their hearing aids this would be a great addition for use with all sports where the ref uses a whistle.
