Our teacher workshops are designed to help promote tech education in New Zealand schools.
A cornerstone of ASB Bright Sparks is working directly with school teachers to help them teach and assess NCEA achievement standards in technology. Our dedicated tutors regularly visit schools to ensure teachers have the skills they need to support their students into hi-tech careers.
The following workshops are available throughout the year. We notify schools of these workshops through direct mail and email. Schools may also contact us to develop bespoke workshops to meet their specific needs.
If you would like to learn more about the next available workshops, please express your interest by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Digital technologies workshops
Beginning, Intermediate, Lev 2 & 3 and ‘We Come to You’ workshops.
Each year we travel to Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, and Christchurch to deliver a series of workshops.
Our specialised teacher and student workshops are designed to give you the tools to ignite imaginations in your classroom.
Whether you know your transistors from your transformers, or you’re new to teaching in this field, our courses have something for everyone. Electronics and digital technology are exciting fields that provide valuable learning opportunities for New Zealand’s future engineers.
These workshops for Electronics and Digital Technologies teachers aim to:
- Provide opportunity for hands-on activity
- Share good teaching programme ideas
- Clarify assessment requirements (both AS and US)
- Help you learn alongside your students (We Come to You)
After completing these workshops you will feel more confident in your knowledge and ability to guide your students through these complex topics. The courses are delivered in a low pressure environment where everyone can take their time to understand the technologies on offer.
You will also learn more about national networks that can provide further support.
The workshops are:
ET101- Beginning with Electronics
An introduction to this important and fun learning area, with plenty of hands-on activity to help you gain (or regain) confidence in the basics. Primary level teachers up.
ET102- The amazing PICAXE microcontroller and affordable robotics
An introduction to unlimited creativity using electronics that will relate to your programme from Intermediate to Year 11.
ET103- Assess with Confidence L2 and L3
A two-day symposium of sharing and getting to the nub of the AS, including externals.
ET104- ‘We Come to You’ (WCTY)
Short 1-3 hr hands-on workshops for you and/or your students. These can be themed to suit your needs, and can include building electronic circuits, budget robotics, or Raspberry Pi. We visit you or your cluster. Minimum and maximum numbers apply.
