Liam Beale

WRB 1 World Record Beater

15 years

Liam created his WRB 1 with one goal in mind - to make a world record beating Unmanned Aerial Vehicle [UAV].

I've got a real interest in UAV's and saw online that a bunch of university students in America had designed and built a homebuilt UAV and managed to set an unofficial altitude record of 7000 feet.  My goal is to beat it by reaching 8000 feet - and set a new world record for a homebuilt UAV.

The best part of the build, was getting the screen to have a working menu, and getting the screen to display variables that were being created by the joystick and communicated through a different chip. The hardest part has been getting the wireless HopeRF modules working. I had them working, then as i was trying to get a servo working in conjunction with the HopeRF I lost all communications!

In my spare time I enjoy working on vehicles, flying aircraft, and building robots! I've been a Bright Sparks member for almost two years and I love the feeling of community that surrounds the website and that there's always someone there who can help you. Over the years I've been particularly inspired by John Britten, his ability to build stuff out of scrap material, never giving up and the fact he punctuated; you don't have to be academic to succeed.

Down the track I'd like to get a degree in mechatronics and then become a mechatronic engineer specialising in UAVs.
