Pieter has created an input device for posing humanoid 3D models. By 3D printing an anatomically correct model and fitting it with the microcontroller and servos, his invention is able to replicate the positions of the model into a digitalised 3D figure

 

What inspired you to create your project?

This project started as a product design project in my DVC class. Around that time I had been studying a lot of figure drawing and I used a software to pose a 3D model as a drawing reference. I found the interface to be a bit clunky and thought about having something pose-able like a wooden mannequin to work with. I also thought that it might be a good product to make since I've been making 3D characters in Blender and I would like to have a nicer way to pose them.

 

What is your dream job?

My dream job is to be a game developer. That is what got me interested in programming and then technology. I have always wanted to make games since I was a kid playing Nintendo games like Super Mario 64, Pokemon Sapphire, and Super Smash Bros.

 

What is the best thing about the ASB Bright Sparks competition to you?

ASB Bright Sparks has provided me with motivation to improve my project even more. It also showed me other people who are working on similar projects like me.
