Profile Info

Genevieve has a passion for conservation and has made her own e.coli incubator! Using fans, heat pads and temperature sensors, the H20 EQB8A is an affordable alternative for culturing 3M Petrifilm. This small and compact incubator runs on low voltage and allows you to adjust the temperature and time easy peasy.

What inspired you to create your project?

I was inspired to make this by a fresh water ecologist who was after an incubator that was small and affordable. Also I have always wanted to make a difference to our water ways.

Are you the first tech inventor in your family?

My dad is an architect and runs the AKL Mini Makers, a technology club for Auckland youth.

What is the best thing about the ASB Bright Sparks competition to you?

It is national which is cool as I haven’t seen any other competitions like this that goes all across New Zealand. The competition is separated into age groups, so I don’t have the pressure of competing with seniors. I also really like how the entries are by video.
