Profile Info

Alia has created a device that can detect a leak in your plumbing anywhere in the house! The Water Leak Detector measures the consistency of the flow of water to determine the location of a leak. Each spin of a rotating impeller from water flow sends a signal to the micro processor which can then calculate the rate of the flow of water, determining whether to shut the water supply off or not. This contraption could save quite a few homes from water damage!

What inspired you to create your project?

In my house, we have had lots of water leaks. They have taken lots of time and money to fix them, and we have had to cut up all the ceiling and pull up tiles and destroy half the house just to find and fix the leak. I thought it would be helpful for my family and for everyone else if I created something that can detect leaks before they get too harmful and expensive.

Are you the first tech inventor in your family?

The first one would be my dad, he is an electronic engineer and he taught me everything I know about writing software at the start.

What is the best thing about the ASB Bright Sparks competition to you?

I like how it has a very modern style and lets a wide variety of technology projects enter. It doesn’t matter what your concept is, if you have created something that is innovative and fixes a problem then you can enter this competition. ASB Bright Sparks also gives you a chance to win a share of a $10k prize pool to help you improve and grow your projects further. It has inspired me to create and learn.
