Koru Pāua Tool
Mitchell HollowsSouth Otago High School
Mitchell Hollows is a keen diver and learned that large amounts our native pāua (New Zealand abalone) die unnecessarily when they are prised off rocks to be measured and then released if they were too small. Recognising the issue he thought he decided to have a go at fixing it and developed the Koru Pāua Tool, a tool designed to measure the shellfish without touching them and so preventing unnecessary deaths.
The Koru Pāua Tool won 1st place in Senior Engineering, the Supreme Male Category, and 3rd place in Senior Environment, amazing work Mitchell!
