Ben FletcherLong Bay College
The Image Recognition Rat Trap can determine the difference between an invasive species and a native animal. It uses open-source neuro-recognition software to compare photos of the captured animal with known photos of invasive species to reach the conclusion – friend or foe. A friend animal is released, a foe animal is terminated. The invention came about to try reduce indiscriminate eradication methods after the NZ Government announced plans to eradicate all invasive species by 2050.
The Image Recognition Rat Trap won 3rd place in Environment (Sponsored by A-Ward), great work Ben!
