Cheng's FFF Printer
Alex Zhuang & KaiXuan (Tim) ChengLynfield College & Hobsonville Point Secondary School
Cheng’s 3D printer is a self-innovated project with improved configuration than other FDM/FFF printers available on the market. Its main areas of focus include its high accuracy and large building volume.
What inspired you to create your project?
The idea of building our own 3D printer came when Tim was wanting to purchase a 3D printer online a few years ago. However, he came to realise that all the available options on the market are overpriced, with their actual capacity being very poor. This gave him the inspiration to design and construct his own machine.
What roles did you have in creating this project?
KaiXuan (Tim): I did the design, contacted manufactures and ordered parts, as well as the assembling of the printer
Alex: I helped with the assembling and did the documentation and report writing.
What is the best thing about the ASB Bright Sparks competition to you?
KaiXuan (Tim): I greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet people similar to me and industrial people who could offer me an opportunity to pursue my career deeper.
Alex: The best thing about ASB Bright Sparks to me is the unique experience it offers to the younger generation who have innovation and ideas. The monetary awards are also very alluring.
